There were 347 students enrolled in Sterling County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 2.1% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

At the time, Sterling County had the 20th lowest enrollment in the state.

Data also showed that white students made up 52% of the student body, the largest percentage in Sterling County schools, followed by Hispanic students at 44.3%, Black students at 0.6%, Pacific Islander students at 0.6%, Asian students at 0.3% and multiracial students at 2.3%.

A recent study by WalletHub classified Texas as one of the least-educated states in the U.S., ranking it 41st out of 50 in educational quality and student outcomes.
