Enrollment Analysis: African American students comprised 3.3% of San Angelo ISD schools' student body in 2022-23 school year

There were 441 African American students enrolled in San Angelo ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 9.3% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that San Angelo ISD schools welcomed 13,548 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 3.3% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

San Angelo ISD roughly covers schools within Tom Green County and has a main office in San Angelo.

Among the 23 schools in San Angelo ISD schools, Central High School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 125 students.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
