The San Angelo City Council last month gave city officials approval to negotiate the sale of close to 580 acres of Ford Ranch.
Adam and Kimberly Ellisor are the prospective buyers, with the city expecting at least $1,950 per acre. Ford Ranch, which is a total of 32,841 acres located in Melvin, was initially bought by San Angelo for nearly $44 million, the city said.
The city also approved a contract for a future sale of 324 acres for no less than $450,000 to a nearby property owner.
Last March, the city sold 864 acres in the southeast corner of the property to Riverbend, Texas, LLC and High Point Ranch Expansion, LLC. The ranch is the location of the Hickory Aquifer, from which the city pumps water.
Four years ago, the City Council approved the purchase of the property in an effort to secure its hold on the aquifer.
