Local hotels are helping the City of San Angelo keep COVID-19 patients who don’t need hospitalization isolated to prevent spread of the coronavirus.
In a news release, the city recently recognized three local hotels for their assistance. Those in quarantine include those who are mildly ill and those who are simply waiting for test results.
The city is seeking to secure $636,480 in funding for the temporary housing program through the Texas Division of Emergency Management. In the event the city is denied reimbursement through TDEM, the city has the option to dip into $1 million that was set aside from CARES Act funds.
In addition to the non-congregant housing grant that will pay for the temporary housing in local hotels, the city also has $1.1 million available from a separate $5 million CARES Act grant to cover expenses the city incurs in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, such as payroll and medical expenses.
