SAN ANGELO – As part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to begin reopening Texas businesses that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, big box stores in the area will now allow more people inside.

According to a report on the Concho Valley Homepage, 250 people at a time will be allowed inside big stores including grocery and building supply stores. Previously, the number allowed in such stores was 100 at a time.

The 250 figure is considered roughly half the total potential number of store visitors during normal times.

“Last week, Governor Greg Abbott announced that we will slowly begin to reopen the state of Texas,” the April 20 statement from the city read. “In light of his announcement, the March 29 order from the Local Health Authority that limited the number of people in grocery stores and building supply stores to 100 will be changed to 250, so long as social distancing rules are still enforced. We will be requiring any employee who has direct contact with customers at these stores to wear face masks. We are also requiring restaurant (to-go orders) employees to wear face masks, as well.”

Bars, nightclubs and entertainment venues as well as gyms and other businesses remain closed.
