State Rep. Drew Darby received 86% of the vote in the Republican primary for District 72 on March 3.
Darby received 20,255 votes to Lynette Lucas’ 3,281 (14%). The wide gap shows that Republican voters heavily support Darby in his bid for another term in the Texas statehouse.
“Our family, Clarisa and I are truly humbled by the overwhelming support,” Darby published on his Facebook page. “Thank you to all our supporters who spent time knocking on doors, making calls, and working at polling locations.”
Texas Democrats did not run a candidate in the primary, essentially assuring Darby of another two-year term.
“Our campaign was successful because we focused on the issues that matter to the people and families that live and work in the Concho Valley and West Texas,” he said.
First elected to the Texas House in 2006, Darby said there is still work that needs to be done.
“I am proud of the results we achieved in the 86th Session, but more work lies ahead,” he said. “In 2021, redistricting will take place and it is important that we fight to protect our rural, West Texas representation in both the Legislature and in Congress.”
Darby is a graduate of the University of Texas.
