The state's economy could be hit significantly if a ban on fracking were to be enacted, the Center Square reported.

Marty Durbin, the president of the U.S. Chamber's Global Energy Institute, told WorldOil.com that increased oil and gas production has helped sustain growth for America.

"Our study shows that banning fracking would have a catastrophic effect on our economy, inducing the equivalent of a major recession and raising the cost of living for everyone across the country," Durbin told the news agency. "This bad idea should be abandoned."

The Center Square reported the Chamber's study estimated a ban on fracking would result in a loss of 3.2 million jobs in the state between 2021 and 2025.

"This new study should serve as a wake-up call to politicians that are calling for fracking bans to abandon this misguided idea," Jeff Moseley, the president of the Texas Association of Business, said.
